Sleep
Sleep problems during the menopause are a common issue. For some women, this starts early in perimenopause, sometimes as the first sign that things are changing.
Sleep disturbances can be impacted directly by declining levels of hormones. But also, by other symptoms; night sweats and disrupted sleep go hand in hand, as well as waking up needing to go to the toilet.
Anxiety can also make it difficult to get to sleep, with the mind whirring in the early hours.
Try making a few simple changes:
* Establish a relaxing sleep routine and a regular wake and sleep time
* Manage stress
* Monitor your caffeine intake
* Talking to your GP about cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for insomnia
* HRT can be helpful for lots of women - consult with your doctor to see if this is an option
